JOB BRIEF:
- To lead and direct students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
LOCATION: Lee Elementary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Eligibility for certification as established by the State Department of Education.
- Completion of an approved graduate degree counselor program.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work within a comprehensive guidance counseling model.
- Works with students on an individual or group basis concerning problems related to such areas as the home, family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
- Be available to students to provide counseling that will assist each student’s personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
- Collaborates with school staff to promote student growth and well-being.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Supports students in their efforts to discover and share their own cultural identities and teaches students the appropriate language for asking questions about the culture of other people.
- Demonstrates counseling strategies and techniques that are responsive to the cultural, ethnic, economic, and linguistic differences of students.
- Assist in maintaining student records and protecting their confidentiality as they relate to the counseling function.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
REPORTS TO:
- Building Principal.
- Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

- USD 383 makes monthly contributions to a 403(b)-retirement account for all certified and eligible employees.
- KPERS (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System): 6% monthly staff contribution. Vested after five years.
TECHNOLOGY:
- District provided devices - iPad, laptop and/or desktop for certified staff.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
